A startling find at Mid-South Auctions on Old Whitfield Foad in Pearl early Thursday morning.
Workers were preparing 16 government vehicles for auction when they discovered a explosive device in a car. Around 8:30, a bottle was discovered under the seat of a 2005 Dodge Caravan. It was wrapped in duct tape, was filled with liquid, and was topped with a blasting cap.
Pearl police tell us the auction vehicles came from Ft. Rucker, Alabama. A bomb squad tossed the bottle into a pit and detonated it.
Authorities speculate the homemade device could have been used for training at the military base. But that speculation has not been confirmed.
No one was injured, and there were no evacuations.
