JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Fairy tale characters came to life in a magical fantasy world Saturday at the Mississippi Children's Museum.

Once Upon a Fall Festival...There Was a Storybook Ball attracted of children of all ages and adults.

The fundraiser was an evening for children to enjoy activities like caricatures, wax hands, tattoo designs, balloon crowns and museum play.

There was dinner, dancing and even carriage rides.

Kids and adults dressed up like their favorite storybook characters.

A trophy was awarded for a winning fifth grade essay on Once Upon A Time...I Saw My Future.

"We believe we're one of the top children's museums in the country, because we really focus very strategically on health and literacy, the issues that face Mississippi's children. And all of our exhibits about 25,000 square feet of exhibits are designed around helping children ignite their imaginations," said Museum executive director Susan Garrard.

The event celebrates children's classic literature and encourages kids to read and expand their imagination by writing their own stories.
