Motorcyclist killed in crash

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A motorcyclist loses his life in a crash while riding with a friend Saturday night in the Capital City.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on Watkins Drive near Beasley Road.

Investigators said 62-year-old Otis Mayes of Jackson was riding with another motorcyclist James Thomas also of Jackson when the accident.

Both were in the southbound lane of Watkins Drive when officers say they attempted to pass a vehicle and collided with each other.

Mayes was ejected and landed on the roadway.

He was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Thomas is listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
