Jackson State unveils new "charging station"

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There's a new place to get a boost for your car in Jackson, but it's not gasoline. It's a new charging station for *electric* vehicles on the campus of Jackson State University.

It is the first of its kind in the state. And today Entergy and Nissan officials showed us how it works.

"I think what we're seeing is an industry on the rise especially in terms of diverse usage of electricity" said Napoleon Johnson, Entergy's Vice President of customer operations. "We already heard about the diverse need of electricity, solar and other sources of power so I think the electric car is that next step."

"The Leaf is an all battery electric powered car" added Tracy Woodard of Nissan USA. "It takes no gas, no tail pipe, and it will go about 100 miles on a single charge."

The charging station is housed at the Transportation and Mobility center at Jackson State.
