The former Viking Classic has a new name and new sponsors

Posted: Updated:

Mississippi's premiere golf tournament will remain in the Magnolia State but under a new name. Tournament Director Randy Watkins has been working around the clock to find a sponsor for the event or lose it all together.

Today he met reporters at Annandale to announce that the PGA Tour will return to Annandale thanks to a group of sponsors.

"The neat thing is with the True South Classic what we're going to have is a consortium of sponsors that are in it to support Mississippi" said Watkins. "It won't be one company's name. It'll be a bunch of them together that supports the state of Mississippi, which really is the great story of the whole thing. it's a lot of folks coming together this big for Mississippi."

Tour dates have not been determined but Watkins believes the tournament days will remain the same.
