Birthday bash for Sheriff Malcolm McMillin

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

He didn't look very surprised when he came walking in with his wife Delores. But once inside he was overwhelmed with the turnout and everybody started singing Happy Birthday.

McMillin had many friends there going all the way back to his days as a beat cop in Jackson in the early 1970's, when he was president of the police union. McMillin got to serve as Chief at JPD, while he was also sheriff, when he was appointed by former Mayor Frank Melton.

McMillin resigned that position and was replaced by the man who beat him for sheriff, Tyrone Lewis. We asked him if he had changed parties would he have won the race.

"I am not going to speculate on that at all. You know the people spoke and so you turn the page and time to get on with my life you know," mcMillin said.

Even Lt. Governor Phil Bryant took time out from his race for governor to come to the party.

"Well I have known Malcolm for probably 30 years," Bryant said.

So Malcolm McMillin has a surprise birthday party, the day before he turns 67.
