Taking Back Our Neighborhoods- 430 S. State St.

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Monday's Taking Back Our Neighborhoods report took 3 On Your Side to two Jackson locations; 1373 Winterview Drive in north Jackson, where neighbors reported an eyesore a year ago and south State Street in downtown Jackson where a viewer called to complain about an abandoned car dealership building.

I received a voicemail from James Pace of Pearl regarding the building that once housed the LeFleur's Cadillac dealership on south State Street in downtown Jackson.

So, I checked it out and sure enough, the plate glass windows had been smashed and plywood panels covering the holes had been pushed to the side. Trash littered what was once the showroom floor and there was a broken beer bottle along the sidewalk. I contacted City of Jackson spokesperson Quita Bride. She says the property owner, Scott Corbett, had complied with a previous order by Community Improvement to board up the place after a homeless person broke in and took residence. Apparently, it has happened again and Bride says the city will start a new case on the property.

Scott Caraway said, "Snakes on the patio. Snakes in the garage. Baby snakes. Big snakes."

Scott Caraway, in September 2010, complained about the house next door, 1373 Winterview Drive. A code enforcement case was already pending then. But I received an email from Latoya Williams, who lives on the other side of the vacant house, a year later. She said nothing had been done since our report aired and she wanted us to check it out. We did and it was just as bad as it was last year. I asked Bride about 1373 Winterview Drive. Community Improvement manager Claude Smith told her the property is in the process of being awarded to a contractor now. So, that means the eyesore should be cleaned up within 30 days. 3 On Your Side will let you know when that happens.

Let us help you take back your neighborhood. Just send an email to hballou@wlbt.com or contact me on Facebook or Twitter.
