A gas leak in Pearl snarled traffic on Highway 80 for a short time Wednesday morning.
The Pearl police and fire departments were called out to Highway 80 and Gulfline Road around 10 a.m. for a strong gas odor.
When they arrived, they found a crew installing a fiber optic line had struck a two inch gas line. All traffic was moved onto the south side of the highway as a precaution, while crews worked to fix the problem.
Captain Tim Sarrett of the Pearl Police Department says, "We blocked traffic. The fire department was on standby in case something did happen. There wasn't an ignited source. We were all on standby in case something happened. The gas company showed up and were able to cap it off."
Police say the high winds helped dissipate the gas. No injuries were reported.
