UPDATE: child sex abuse not yet determined

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Hinds County Youth Court says abuse has not been determined in a case of suspected child sex abuse we reported Thursday.

A Jackson grandmother we're calling "Mary" claims her five-year-old granddaughter is being abused. She's taken the child to the emergency room several times.

Documents show that in March of 2010, the physician's diagnosis was "vaginal abrasion/sexual assault".

Mary has had temporary custody in the past. But earlier this year, the Hinds County Youth Court remanded custody back to the parents. Youth Court Judge Bill Skinner wouldn't go on camera with us because the case is still under investigation. But he says the child has a guardian ad litem, which is a court-appointed attorney working solely for the child. There's also an independent investigator assigned to the case.

Youth Court is exhausting every avenue to determine if the child is being abused, but that determination has not yet been made.
