MS International Film Festival at Davis Planetarium
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Mississippi International Film Festival kicked-off Friday evening at the Davis Planetarium.
Organizers say more than 50 films from 12 countries were entered in this year's competition. Friday night's showcase film was a documentary featuring the freedom riders. Freedom rider Fred Clark, senior says the arts are an important way to teach young people about their heritage.
"We are behind so far as children being aware of their own history right here in Mississippi and Jackson. So I think the arts play a primary role in refining that and giving them reflection back and certainly have expectations of themselves," said Freedom Rider, Fred Clark Sr.
The film festival continues through the weekend and culminates with the presentation Sunday of the best of festival award.
The awards ceremony will feature remarks by noted Hollywood actor Danny Glover.
All-day passes to the film festival are only $8.00.
