Final Power of Pink Event Held

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

For a third year, WLBT and Baptist Hospital teamed up to celebrate the 'Power of Pink.'

It's an on-going campaign to increase awareness about breast cancer.

A number of WLBT's 'Power of Pink' events have been held throughout the month of October to promote the importance of prevention and early detection.

Mark Slyter, President and CEO of Baptist Health Systems said, "It's important for Baptist because we are so committed to breast cancer and breast cancer awareness. For the last three years we've been leaders in healthcare and followers in faith and a partnership with WLBT on this has just been just real tremendous. And raising that awareness and raising the support for the screenings, diagnostic and breast cancer cases that we see and others in the state of Mississippi."

Our final 'Power of Pink' event took place during the 6pm newscast at Highland Village Monday night.

Chief Meteorologist Barbie Bassett was joined by many others for the pink balloon release in honor and memory of those who have battled breast cancer.
