Students and faculty at Jackson State University hope to bring awareness to domestic violence on Tuesday. The groups MADDRAMA, The SMHART Institute and 8 P.E.A.C.E. are hosting a domestic violence prevention rally from 11:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.
It's taking place on the JSU campus at the New Student Center. The entire community is invited to come out and receive information and resources about domestic violence. Certified counselors will be available.
James Lehaman, the rally event coordinator says "a lot of young ladies and even young men feel that they're embarrassed and they really don't have anybody to talk to and I do understand it's a very touchy subject. It's not something that's so easy to talk about so our goal today is to open up our arms and our doors and say hey we're here come and talk to us."
The rally leads up to a performance tonight which deals with the subject of domestic violence. It's called "A Domestic Confession: Love Is..." The performance is free at JSU McCoy Auditorium.
