Good Samaritan just wanted to do the right thing

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Good Samaritan in Pearl has become a godsend for a local business owner.

Jose Freyre found a purse belonging to the owner of Patsy's Cafe last Wednesday.

The purse contained thousands in cash from the restaurant, and was left in a Walmart buggy.

"I was freaking out more than you could imagine," says purse owner Patsy Lynchard.

Lynchard realized she made the mistake when she started searching for her phone, which she normally leaves in her purse.  She returned to Walmart minutes later, but the purse was gone.

Gone but not lost.

Maria Freyre who doesn't speak English was contacting her son Jose, to help return a purse she found in the Walmart parking lot.

The two went to Patsy's restaurant but she wasn't there.

"When she got the purse she realized this belongs to somebody, there was a lot of money in it," Jose said.

After answering a ringing phone inside it, Jose was able to connect with Patsy, and return it to her.

The kind gesture was returned with a warm meal, because Jose refused to take a reward.

He says he just wanted to do the right thing.

"We live in very difficult days, but there's always a choice to do the right thing, we honor God through our choices," Jose said.

The Freyers wouldn't take a reward, but they did receive some of Patsy's good cooking for their honesty.
