Jailer charged with having sex with inmate

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Rankin County jailer is arrested for having sexual contact with an inmate.

Sheriff Ronnie Pennington identified the jailer as 29-year-old Benjamin Reed of Brandon.

Reed had been with the department for two and a half years.

Reed is now free on $1,500 bond.

Pennington said the inmate is a woman in her 20s who is serving time on a drug charge.

Sheriff Pennington said such actions cannot be tolerated by law enforcement, and that all are trained never to touch an inmate.
