JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

With the general election less than two weeks away, Republican gubernatorial candidate, Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant, lands a key endorsement.

Tuesday, Mississippi's leading small business association pledged its support for Bryant's bid to become Mississippi's next governor.

Ron Aldridge, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business made the announcement during a press conference in Jackson.

Aldridge says they chose to endorse Bryant based on his position and record on small business issues.

"It's what our membership thinks. And they voted this year based on a survey that was sent to them. Ninety-four percent of our members said we need to endorse. Out of that 94%, ninety-six percent said Phil Bryant should be the governor of Mississippi."

The NFIB has 3,400 members throughout Mississippi.

Bryant's democratic challenger, Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, also received an endorsement Wednesday. He is being backed by the Biloxi Sun Herald.

The general election is November 8.
