Three Ole Miss students killed in car crash

Posted: Updated:

VAIDEN, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol says three students from the University of Mississippi died Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on I-55 near Vaiden.

State Trooper Tony Dunn says the accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Sunday when the car in which the students were riding ran off the road into the median and between two overpasses which pass over Mississippi Highway 35. The vehicle continued off the embankment and overturned, landing upside down on its hood on Highway 35.

The University of Mississippi and the patrol identified the students as 18-year-old Samuel Clayton Kelly, 19-year-old Charles Walker Kelly and 19-year-old Bryant Mason Wilbanks, all of Madison, Miss. All three were freshmen at Ole Miss.

Dunn says all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Dunn says the accident is under investigation.
