PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The message was to get out and vote November 8th in Mississippi's general election.

A rally featuring several statewide Republican candidates was held at Hinds Community College in Pearl late Thursday afternoon.

The crowd cheered wildly as Governor Haley Barbour urged the 250 people attending to remind friends to be sure and vote Tuesday.

The featured speaker was New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Christie said when he was elected, New Jersey had $13 billion dollars in budget deficits.

Introducing gubernatorial candidate Phil Bryant, Christie said for the first time in eight years, New Jersey's budget was balanced and pride has been restored to the citizens of the state.

"That's what Governor Barbour has done for Mississippi over the last eight years, has brought pride back to Mississippi in its leaders and political system and I will tell you I know that the man I'm about to introduce will not only continue that great tradition but will expand on it," said New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Bryant is widely considered to be the front runner in the governor's race.

The Associated Press reported Bryant has out-spent his Democratic challenger, Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree, 7-1.

If elected, Bryant will be the first Republican governor in history to follow another Republican governor.
