Rain returns this week

Posted: Updated:

Our weather stays rather quiet Monday and Tuesday. We'll enjoy some warmer temperatures with lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s both days. There will be some clouds around, but enough sunshine to make for a couple of nice days.

We're still on track to have a cold front move through late Tuesday night into the first half of Wednesday. Most of the energy will pass well to our northwest and storms along the front will weaken as they move into Mississippi Tuesday night. There may be enough instability around for a few storms to produce strong winds, especially in the western third of the state.

Rainfall totals with the front will be pretty healthy...around a half-inch to inch in most areas. We need the rain. "Abnormally dry" conditions on the drought index have snuck back into southwest Mississippi over the last few weeks.

Timing of the front and rain may change, but I still believe most of the rain will be out of our area by early to mid-afternoon.

Much cooler air will move in behind the rain. Highs will be back in the 60s and lows in the 30s/40s for Thursday and Friday.
