RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An elderly woman in Rankin County has died in a house fire. Relatives were passing by the home at 1393 Old Pearson Road in Florence around one Monday morning when they saw flames coming from the house.

Rankin County Under Sheriff, Bryan Bailey tells us family members tried to get into the home but the door was barricaded. Deputies and fire fighters responded and were told an 86 year old woman lived in the house. Her body was found late Monday morning.

Bailey says any elderly resident concerned about keeping warm in cold weather should contact their local fire department or Emergency Management Agency. He says the victim has not been identified pending an autopsy. An investigation is underway.
