Democrat Robert Graham remains District One Supervisor

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Incumbent Robert Graham emerges the victor in the Hinds County District One Supervisor's race.

The 58-year-old received 52 percent to his opponent's 48 percent. The Democrat was challenged by Republican businessman John Dennery.

Graham watched the returns at the Hinds County Courthouse. It was a tight race throughout the night.

Graham says voters did not believe the negative campaign attacks against him.

"The people that know me that's been knowing me for over the thirty years that I have worked with at the police department and knowing me since I worked at the supervisors, they know the type of person, the type of individual that I am," said Graham. "They know my character, and they know I work hard. And no amount of negative publicity can overcome that."

Graham says his focus now is on making sure the county is fiscally sound.
