RUSTON, La. (AP) - Trevor Gaskins scored 17 points and Cordarius Johnson had a big second half in Louisiana Tech's 92-70 win over Mississippi College on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Gaskins, a transfer guard from Ole Miss, scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half and helped the Bulldogs hold off pesky Mississippi College and enter halftime with a 39-33 lead.
Louisiana Tech went on a 31-15 run in the second half to give them a 70-48 lead with 9:46 remaining to play. Johnson scored all of his points in the second half and 11 of them during the run.
Mississippi College started well, shooting 43% (13 for 30) from the field and entered halftime only trailing by six. But the Division III Choctaws had too many defensive lapses, allowing Louisiana Tech to shoot 55.3% from the field in the second half.
