Teenage rapist gets 30 years in prison

Posted: Updated:

Two victims of a violent sexual assault in 2008 testified in Hinds County court Wednesday they will never get over the horror and fear of an attack by then, 15-year-old Kendrick Crockett.

A Circuit Court Judge sentenced Crockett to 30 years in prison today on five counts ranging from forcible rape, to sexual battery to breaking and entering. He will have to register as a convicted sex offender once he gets out of prison.

Crockett and his friends kidnapped one victim at gunpoint from a car in June of 2008. She was brutally raped and assaulted.

Within two weeks, Crockett and another teenager broke into a Jackson home and sexually assaulted another young woman. According to Assistant District Attorney Shaunte Washington, the women were forcibly raped and sodomized. She said multiple defendants took turns raping and sodomizing one of the victims.

The Assistant District Attorney was pleased with the sentence in court Wednesday.

In court, Crockett turned to the victims and asked them if they would forgive him for his crimes. They answered with blank stares and shook their heads no. Crockett had nothing to say as he was led from the courtroom.  James Banks has also pleaded guilty to rape, sexual battery and auto theft in connection with this case.  Banks is awaiting sentencing.
