Severe weather is over, rain to continue

Posted: Updated:

It was a wild midday period with a line of strong and severe storms moving through. Numerous reports of trees down across central Mississippi due to what was likely straight-line winds.

There were reports of funnel clouds in Rankin and Scott counties, but it is unclear that any damage was caused by a tornado. As of early Tuesday afternoon, The National Weather Service did not have any plans to check out storm damage.

The severe weather potential is over for our area, but a good band of steady rain follows. Rain will end from west to east by early evening.

Rainfall totals could be as high as 2" in some areas.

Chief Meteorologist Barbie Bassett will fill you in on the progress of the rain as well as have your Thanksgiving Forecast, starting today at 4PM on WLBT.
