In the past few weeks there have been two accidents with school children involving drivers over 80 years old.
This raises a very delicate, but important issue.
Should there be driving tests for older drivers?
Currently Mississippi allows drivers any age to renew their driver's license for eight years, no questions asked.
As a whole older drivers self regulate themselves by not driving at night or during rush hours and by just driving less.
The problem is few of us when we get older recognize or want to admit that our driving skills have diminished.
I believe that Mississippi should have vision and road testing beginning at age 75.
I am not advocating taking away driving privileges of older drivers, but just as we test and place restrictions on teenage drivers, the state has a responsibility to test older drivers and place restrictions on them if they are unable to drive safely.
