Wingfield High School's locker room thefts

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Lanier boys basketball Bulldogs are undefeated on the court, but they took a big loss in the locker room Tuesday night.

Jackson Police report the Lanier players had several personal items stolen from the Wingfield visitor's locker room.

Police say nearly 20 players had items like phones, clothes and bags taken during the game.

Jackson Public Schools' officials say they are taking pro-active steps to prevent thefts at games.

They now plan to put security staff near locker room areas during games in the future.

"It may be a window that may be the point of entry but we're not sure right now," said Jackson Police Spokesperson Colendula Green. "We're still investigating it; they're also conducting their own investigation with this incident as well."

A similar theft happened last year to members of the Terry boys basketball team during a game at Wingfield High School.

So far no arrests in this case have been made.

Jackson Police and Jackson Public Schools' Enforcement are working together to try to catch those responsible.
