Metro-Jackson retailers prep for Black Friday

Posted: Updated:

It's too late to claim first spot in line at Best Buy in Northeast Jackson.

A tent is pitched outside the doors.

One employee tells us the eager shoppers set up Tuesday night, but the manager says the tent occupants have been there since Monday.

"They got here the day before yesterday, said they had the time available to them this year to be first in line, they were excited about Black Friday," said Customer Solutions Manager Josh Sanders.

Best Buy will open at midnight Thanksgiving night.

Sanders tells us about the hot items.

"Probably a large array in our tablets and our notebooks, large push on those this year, as well as our TV's," Sanders said. Anywhere from 55 down to 19 inch."

The buzz at Northpark Mall is cool toys and gadgets, like the A.R. Drone hovercraft at Brookstone.

The fun flyer can be yours for $299.

If clothes and accessories are on your list, hit Dillards.

Uggs Boots are expected to be big sellers.

Brand names like Coach and Polo that are already on sale, will be dropped another 50 percent for Black Friday shoppers.

"We have a lot of signage we're going to get out tonight before closing," said Manager George Tanner.

While Black Friday is a busy shopping day, it's more important at Dillards to let employees enjoy Thanksgiving than to bring them in extra-early to open the store.

Dillards will open at 6:00am on Friday.

"We feel we should honor the family, spend time with our family on the holidays," Tanner said. "I think what it does, it kicks off the holiday season. From now through Christmas is the biggest time of the year."

Ridgeland Police will have their Northpark Mall substation set up near Dillards South inside the mall.
