'Top Hat Brunch' in its 20th year

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's top hat time again, but this one's for the ladies.

Fancy hats as far as the eye could see were found at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson. The local chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women held its 20th annual Top Hat Brunch Saturday morning. It's the local chapter's largest fund raiser, supporting ten $1,000 scholarships for high school students each year.

Four-hundred fifty people showed up for the brunch and fashion show. "A lot of past members are back with us to celebrate our 20th today, a lot of family members, friends, church members, everyone comes out to support," says Belinda Fields, President of the local chapter.

WLBT's own Howard Ballou was one of three celebrity toasters for this year's event.

The Central Mississippi chapter of 100 Black Women has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships since the Top Hat Brunch began.
