CRYSTAL SPRINGS, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A record number of voters went to the polls Tuesday to elect the next mayor of Crystal Springs.

A special election was required because Arthur Lee Evans resigned.

Unofficial results show Sally Garland, long-time Parks and Recreation Director, pulled in 770 votes to become the Crystal Spring's first female mayor.

Jazman Wheeler, an alderman, received 397 votes and Patrick Guerdan trailed with 9 votes.

The results cannot be finalized until affidavit and absentee ballots are counted.
