Wednesday's Child - Marcus

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

This week's Wednesday's Child does not speak but has his own unique way of communicating.

His foster family has helped 11 year old Marcus come a long way.

Marcus needs a permanent family who can accept and embrace his special needs.

We met Marcus at the Natural Science Museum.

Marcus is fascinated by fish.

He searched for every display inside the museum.

He is non-ambulatory but does walk with assistance and scoots on a scooter board with directions.

Marcus does not have verbal communication skills, he communicates in his own way.

His social workers say he displays gestures such as whining, facial expressions or pushing objects when he wants something or does not want something.

Marcus is 5th grade this year.

He loves to attend library, music and P.E.

Marcus responds to sounds.

One of his favorites at the Natural Science Museum was the sound of the bull frog.

Marcus has been placed in a loving and caring resource home.

His resource parents make sure all his needs are met.

Marcus likes staying in his routine, and will stay outdoors for hours.

He attends church with his resource parents, they also go on vacations and family outings.

Marcus enjoys boat rides and the park.

Marcus needs a two parent forever family who will provide him with the care and love he needs.

His resource parents say everyone who works with him has learned never to count him out and they see every disability as an ability.
