Hotel shooting suspect appears in court

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One of three people accused in an online dating match-up that went wrong appeared before a judge in Hinds County Monday morning. Joseph Baskin of Pearl is charged with aggravated assault.

The incident happened on October 25. A man was shot in the arm at the Extended Stay Deluxe Hotel on Beasley Road.

Jackson police say the shooting victim told officers he had met up with a woman named Julie Baskin at the hotel. The two made contact through an Internet website called backpage.com.

Investigators said the man was set up and would not pay Baskin $100 for sex, so he left the hotel.

That's when he was approached by Baskin's husband, Joseph Baskin and Frankie Williamson.

The man was shot in the arm and ran to the Jameson Inn for help.
