Rankin County residents speak out about broken dam

Posted: Updated:
RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The stalemate between a private developer and Rankin County officials on repairing a dam continued Thursday morning.

Caught in the middle of it are residents that call Robinhood Lake home. They vented their frustrations to the Rankin County board of supervisors.

The dam at Robinhood Lake was compromised following heavy rain in September.

Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality officials said the lake had to be drained and it cannot be refilled until the dam is repaired.

Residents are pleading with the county to fix the dam. But since it's privately owned, supervisors say their hands are tied.

"We've been waiting several months now for the dam to be repaired. We got lake houses with no lake. Several. And we're just concerned that the county is not stepping up to the plate," said Robinhood Lake resident, Larry Caraway.

The lake is owned by Tommy Thrash. County officials also report that DEQ has to do a study on the dam before anything can be done.
