The Mississippi Department of Environment Quality has issued a temporary advisory for Purple Creek in Jackson.
MDEQ recommends you avoid recreational activities such as swimming or fishing until further notice.
The advisory applies to Purple Creek at Sedgwick Drive downstream to the confluence with the Pearl River.
Officials say a collapsed sewer line resulted in the discharge of untreated wastewater into the creek. At last check, repair crews were on the scene.
