RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The wrapping paper is crumpled and tossed, and the tree is now bare. But that doesn't mean an end to the shopping.

If you didn't get exactly what you wanted for Christmas local retailers are making it easy for you to find just what you're looking for with price slashing after Christmas deals.

Bargains lured shoppers early to the stores for after Christmas savings.

Northpark Mall was packed Monday with people searching for after Christmas markdowns.

Some didn't like what they got under the tree and headed back to the store.

"I have some returns, but I didn't want to stand in line today So I'm going to come back on another day to bring those back, but today I hit the mall for some savings. Everything's on sale," said Erin Cummins who took advantage of after Christmas sales.

"The After Christmas Sales mainly getting shoes and some presents for my Dad. Stuff I didn't get for Christmas," said Dylan Ferguson of Brandon.

"I came out here today to get a phone cover for my iPhone. I got a new Ballistic case," said Dustin Ferguson who was in the mall with his brother.

"It wasn't so much after Christmas savings as an exchange. If I had the money I would," said Shaun Rose of Gainesville, Florida.

Half price sales were practically at every turn.

At Dillard's, Christmas ornaments and holiday items were flying off the shelves.

"All the Christmas is 50% off and the rest of the store we have 50% off in men's and throughout, handbags and lingerie. Lots of sales today," said Dillard's Store Manager George Tanner.

Mall management said the holiday season sales are up, better than last year.

"I can tell you that all the retailers are really happy with the numbers that we've gotten so far.," said Northpark Mall Director of Marketing Gia Maloney.

Many happily used gift cards to make those After Christmas Sale purchases.

"I love them. I received several gift cards for Christmas, and I'm out here at the mall spending them," said Jackson resident Sharon Parker.

"That's why a lot of returns have been because it's stuff that people don't know how to shop for, so gift cards are better," said Sarah Fleming of Brookhaven.

"It's nice you can choose whatever you want. It's very good. Otherwise you have no choices. Gift card has advantages," said Deniz Ersin who is visiting from Istanbul, Turkey.

"I like gift cards. I mean you can get whatever you want you know. You don't have to pay for it. that's nice," said Carmen Lofton who was shopping with gift cards.

Northpark, Belk and JC Penney stayed open an hour later to accommodate those still hunting for bargains.

Target was opened until 11 p.m. Monday.
