In a 3 On Your Side exclusive, Jackson Police put a dent in the illicit drug trade after raiding a house near downtown. The house is located on1428 Deer Park Street and investigators called this a significant bust with multiple arrests.
As contractors for the City of Jackson demolished a row of dilapidated houses on Deer Park Street, officers from two Jackson police precincts and the narcotics unit broke up an alleged drug dealing operation out of the house across the street.
Commander Allen White said. "Earlier this evening, we received a tip of some illegal activity going on over here on Deer Park Street. We acted on it."
Luggage in the trunk of a car was searched. Drug dogs were brought in to sniff out the dope and, sure enough, there were hits.
Commander White said, "We recovered a little over 2 ounces of marijuana, two firearms; one which was stolen. A set of scales used to measure and weigh marijuana and a bullet proof vest and all this took place within a thousand feet of a church, so we'll try to get the enhanced penalty on that as well."
Also confiscated were two cars, one with an out-of-state tag. Police arrested nine people ranging in age from 18 to 63-years-old on a variety of charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and carrying a concealed weapon. Four of those arrested had outstanding warrants and old fines that were never paid. Commander Allen White called the raid significant.
"Very significant. We received information. We came and acted on it and it was successful.", said White.
He continued, "We ask all the time for the public to get more involved in this and if they see stuff out there to, by all means, pick the phone up and call. They're extra eyes and ears in the neighborhood and that helps a lot."
Commander White said there will be a follow-up investigation and more arrests are possible.
