Update: Couple moves from mold

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Wednesday, Jermaine Powell pointed out the mold growing in the bathroom of the apartment he shares with his fiancee, Sally Trunnell.

"It's all down the side of the toilet, down the walls, everything," he showed us.

They had moved Trunnell's young children out, and the couple both began using an inhaler to combat illness. The couple felt their complaints were being ignored by management.

But after our story aired, they say management stepped up, offering them a different apartment.

"They saw it on the news and stuff. They called me first, told me about it, came by," Trunnell tells us.

"They called and told us they were gonna get us out ASAP," Powell says.

On Friday, with the help of a team of family and friends, they moved into an apartment on another property of Magnolia Park Apartments, just a short drive away on West Capitol Street.

Trunnell will bring her children home when the move is complete.

"I'm glad to be moving, glad, happy for it, I get my kids back, it's wonderful," she says.

Improvements have been made at the apartment complex too. Two torn door frames and a hole in a hallway wall that we reported on, have been fixed.

Hope and happiness in Jackson, just in time for the new year.

"I'm satisfied," Powell says.

"If it wasn't for y'all we wouldn't have got out of this house, so thank you so much," Trunnell says.
