
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jenirro Bush scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Jackson State opened Southwestern Athletic Conference play by defeating Alabama A&M 55-52 Tuesday night.
The Tigers (3-10) led 49-41 with 4:26 remaining, but the Bulldogs (2-8) closed the gap to 52-50 on Jeremy Crutcher's layup with 23 seconds left.
Christian Williams' two free throws gave Jackson State a 4-point lead, but Demarquelle Tabb's layup cut that to 54-52 with 7 seconds left.
After Williams, who finished with 12 points, made 1 of 2 free throws with 4 seconds to go, Crutcher's attempt at a tying 3-pointer missed at the buzzer.
Marcus Lee scored 11 points and Casey Canty and Tabb had 10 each for the Bulldogs, who have lost seven in a row.
4 of Jackson State's losses entering conference play were against teams that were ranked at the time - Florida, Baylor, Ohio State and Memphis.
