House arrest for former Clinton school bus driver

Posted: Updated:

A former Clinton School District bus driver accused of having sexual contact with three young girls remains out of jail on bond.

Shepard Ray Havens of Bolton appeared in Hinds County Circuit Court Wednesday morning for his arraignment. Havens is charged with six counts of gratification of lust and one count of sexual battery.

Havens' attorney, John Colette, says from what he's read in the indictment, the alleged victims are one ten year-old girl and two eight year-old girls.

Havens has been out of jail on a $100,000 bond since September 29th 2011. During court, Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd ruled to continue that bond under certain conditions.

"What we also did was we asked him to include house arrest to ensure he can't come around the victims and that he can't work around children. I mean obviously he's a school bus driver it's a very serious situation and we want to make sure he can't be around any children," said Jaime McBride, the Hinds County Assistant District Attorney prosecuting Havens' case.

In response to Havens being on house arrest, Havens' attorney John Colette said, "It's pretty general in these types of cases, Hinds County has utilized that procedure in all of these sexual cases involving minors."

Havens' trial is expected to begin sometime during the June 2012 term.
