A northeast Jackson woman credits her dog with alerting her to a crime unfolding in the middle of the night at her neighbor's home.
A burglar was reportedly shot by the homeowner who chased the suspect at gunpoint.
The ferocious barks from Adrianne Lucke's golden retriever mix awakened her early Tuesday morning, alerting her to a frightening scene unfolding at her neighbor's Sunnyvale Drive home.
"I've never heard him bark like that before, so I got my little gun out," said Lucke.
With Rusty still barking beside her she looked through the window across the street.
"A young man came crawling out of that window racing for the driveway where a car was waiting. About five seconds later the woman who owns the house over there came through the same window, gun in hand and ran towards her driveway as well," said the Sunnyvale Drive resident.
Lucke said when police arrived to talk to the gun wielding homeowner she told them what she saw.
"I had a front row seat," said the vigilant neighbor.
Other residents said they heard gunshots around one a.m.
The legal secretary said the fleeing suspect appeared to be a black male in his late teens to early 20's.
About four hours later she said JPD officers returned to get her written statement.
"They said that he had been shot three times, and he was at U.M.C. Now he did not run like anybody who had been hit so I was surprised to hear that he had been shot three times," said Lucke.
Gill Guillory lives next door to Lucke and said the same neighbor's house was targeted previously.
"Approximately four/five months ago someone broke into the garage and they put plywood up to stop the person from coming back....I've had a miter saw stolen out of my yard, out of my garage. I've had a lawn mower stolen," said Guillory.
The 69 year old Jackson resident credits her one year old rescue dog with keeping her safe and said she is doing her part for the neighborhood.
"I don't know the young lady or the family across the street, but I wanted to let her know that I had her back as much I would hope that she would do the same for me," added Lucke.
We were unable to reach the homeowner for comment on the reported burglary and shooting.
