Capitol changes for the 64th gubernatorial inauguration

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi is now in the hands of new leadership.

But not without a few glitches and 11th hour changes.

Republican Governor-elect Phil Bryant took the oath of office Tuesday morning after 11:00 o'clock inside the State Capitol with major adjustments to plans.

Monday night the event was planned to be outside with very "iffy" weather conditions.

Early Tuesday morning staffers had an about-face and throngs of Mississippians packed the Capitol.

Behind the scenes, staffers scrambled to make last minute changes right up to 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning.

"The logistics would usually be a nightmare but thankfully we were prepared," said event volunteer S. Ross Aldridge. "We saw the weather on Channel 3 as well as NOAA and we have made accommodations as best possible."

Governor Haley Barbour entered the Capitol for his closing hour in office.

Governor Barbour said he was pleased with the incoming governor's appointments and added "This was Phil Bryant's day."
