JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Martin Luther King, Jr. parade took place in Jackson Saturday morning.

The bright sunshine energized the crowd as they watched JROTC teams, school marching bands, debutantes and local community leaders.

The parade is put on every year by former Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, who's now a Hinds County Supervisor.

Scores of families come out every year to watch the festivities.

Parade attendee Zarina Stephenson said, "People get to dance, everyone, the whole neighborhood gets together to have a great time."

Newly elected Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis was also in attendance. "This is a very special parade, very special to me today because these are my people. They helped me get elected. For the cause of the parade, it's very important to me," he said.

Sheriff Lewis had a team of deputies on horseback at the parade.

Jackson State University President Dr. Carolyn Meyers served as Grand Marshal.
