JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
M.L.K. celebrations continued in the Capital City with a concert honoring the slain civil rights leader.
Voices from the Jackson metro area and Vicksburg came together to offer praise and worship and to sing patriotic music at Cade Chapel M.B. Church.
The annual Martin Luther King Interdenominational Mass Choir Unity Celebration was held Sunday afternoon.
About a dozen choirs were represented.
Organizers said while the event is a tribute to Dr. King, it is also a time to reflect on the advances African American have made through his work and sacrifice.
"I remember certain things my mom told me about the struggle and about it being important for us not to forget, for us to remind generations to come where we've come from, how far we've got to go. We can never go back to where we were before. We've always got to keep moving forward," said concert chairperson Lynnita Watson Balu.
This is the 11th year the concert has been held.
