House Fire Investigation

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Over the last few months, there have been an unusual amount of fires throughout the capital city. Now, fire officials are paying close attention. Since October, Jackson firefighters have responded to more than half a dozen fires where the cause was not immediately clear.

Just Thursday a home on Lynch Street went up in smoke. No one was hurt and the cause is under investigation. Also being investigated, a fire from late November on Robinson Street where neighbors say several young men were fleeing the area before the fire started.

Witness Irene Coleman said, "That was unnecessary, they need to be in school somewhere and these parents need to keep up with their children because it's really unnecessary, he keeps this building boarded up and he just didn't deserve it."

Another fire on Robinson Street December 1st also drew the attention of fire investigators. The Jackson Fire Department says they are now investigating a string of fires in the capitol city, but wouldn't say how many, nor would they say how they were set or if they suspect arson.  For now, they're labeling them as suspicious, hoping to stop this dangerous trend that is threatening the lives of nearby residents, and firefighters as well.
