Dedmon wants trial moved

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A white Brandon teenager charged with intentionally running over a black man with his pickup truck in Jackson wants his trial moved.

Attorneys for Deryl Dedmon have asked the court to move the case out of Hinds County. Dedmon signed an affidavit Monday that says he believes he can't get a fair trial if it's held in the majority-black capital city because of extensive news coverage.

A hearing was scheduled for Thursday in Hinds County Circuit Court to address this, but that hearing has been rescheduled for February 16th at 9 a.m.

The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to Capital Murder in the June 2011 death of 49-year-old James Craig Anderson.

Prosecutors have labeled this case a hate crime.
