Richland residents call 3 On Your Side over frequent speeders

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some families fed up with speeding motorists in Richland call 3 On Your Side.

Leigh Hemanes says school buses stop at just about every street in her neighborhood which means lots of children live and play on the streets that branch off of Brandon Avenue.

But Hemanes says speeders can be caught any time of day using Brandon Avenue as a freeway.

The street serves as a shortcut from Old Brandon Road to Industrial Drive so the street doesn't just see neighborhood traffic.

"You come out and look, and they will just be flying down the road," Hemanes said.

"We've written a lot of tickets in that area," said Chief Russel James of the Richland Police Department. "We do our best to enforce the law. Sometimes people get upset there's not enough being done."

While WLBT was on the scene, a Richland Police Officer was also there running radar and writing speeding citations.
