Cases of epilepsy on the rise

Educators from a statewide organization invite you to come out to learn more about a growing health concern. The "Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi" is hosting an epilepsy educational kick-off party Thursday night. The goal is to inform at least 75,000 Mississippians about epilepsy, which is a brain disorder that causes seizures.

An estimated 60,000 people in the Magnolia State have been diagnosed with epilepsy and the number of new cases is rising on a daily basis.

"We believe it's because of the veterans that are returning from our recent war and we don't know what they've experienced and what they've come in contact with that might be causing these seizure and I know that post-traumatic stress can also be a factor," said Tres Townsend, the Executive Director for the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi.

To learn more about epilepsy, head over to the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi's educational campaign kick-off party starting at 5:00 P.M. tonight. The address is 2001 Airport Road in Flowood.
