JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Hinds County sheriff's deputies made two arrests and confiscated a significant amount of drugs overnight.
The sheriff's department was called to 316 Seminole Circle in Terry just before midnight Thursday night for an alarm call. While on scene, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana. After obtaining a search warrant, they found 19 pounds of high-grade marijuana in the home.
Both residents -- Chanson Otis, 35, and Camille Russel, 32 -- were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute, while in possession of a firearm.
The two also face three counts of child endangerment. Their children have been sent to stay with relatives.
"The message is that were going to be very aggressive on crime to include people that want to do business and sell drugs in Hinds county. It doesn't matter whether you're in Jackson, Terry, Utica, we got our eyes on you," said newly elected Sheriff Tyrone Lewis.
