JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Jackson firefighters worked a vacant house fire Saturday morning.
Neighbors say the flames were high at the house in the 200 block of Cottonwood Drive around 6:15 Saturday morning. The house if located off Medgar Evers Boulevard.
There's not much left of the house, but some bricks and smoldering ruins. Firefighters were still on the scene late Saturday morning, watching out for hot spots. A car in the driveway next door was singed on the driver's side due to the fire.
Franklin Meeks, who lives next door, says the man who owns the house moved out and he had just finished moving all of his belongings from the home.
Meeks also says there's been a fire at the house previously.
"Somebody tried to set it on fire before. We put it out. We had to get buckets of water. We put out. Someone had put some wood in the bathtub, set it on fire," Meeks said.
Atmos Energy was also attending to two downed power lines at the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
