JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A south Jackson homeowner says she's been transferred from department to department while water has been leaking around her home for three months.
Shari Wilson told WLBT that she's gotten the run around while running water is ruining her property.
The Brookleigh Place homeowner said water has been collecting on the side of her home since she first began contacting the City of Jackson in October.
"I would just like for it to stop," said Wilson.
The 27-year-old said she was transferred from various departments before anyone would even come to her property.
"I contacted the drain department luckily they came out the very day. He called me back about three hours later. He said well this is not a drain issue. This is actually in fact a leak issue. So I was directed to the same exact person I called from the very beginning," said Wilson.
According to the banker, after three months she was told that crews would have to drill on Forest Hill Road to correct the problem.
Forest Hill runs along Wilson's back fence.
We found water running along the street from the intersection of Eagle Drive around her home and others.
"It's circling the house," said Wilson.
And the water is spreading to a vacant lot next door.
It appeared to be seeping from the ground, flowing along the curb and to a drain three houses from hers.
Other residents said they've also contacted the city over several months about the overgrown lot and constantly running water.
"I'm paying for this property. I cannot walk in my back yard because of the amount of water and mud that's starting to saturate my grounds," said Wilson.
She has lived here about 17 months and is frustrated by the damage to her property, but more so by the city response.
"We need to make sure that we're taking care of our citizens. I've just recently bought this house. I plan on living here 30 years, but you know that's something that I might need to question now," added the concerned homeowner.
City of Jackson Spokesman Chris Mims was contacted about the problem and said crews would be sent to investigate.
