Funeral Services for Cleveland Donald, Jr. Saturday

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Funeral services will be held in Jackson Saturday for Cleveland Donald, Jr. The Jackson native and former Vice Chancellor at the University of Massachusetts was 65 years old.

Donald, who was an ordained minister, attended Brinkley High School and was involved in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.

After attending Tougaloo College for one year, he enrolled at the University of Mississippi and became the second African American to graduate and the last to enter under Federal Protection.

Donald returned to Ole Miss in 1978 to help establish its first Black Studies Program. He also held professorships at the University of Texas, the State University of New York, the University of Massachusetts, and as Director of the University of Connecticut at Waterbury.

Visitation will be held Friday evening at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home Chapel and the Celebration of Life service Saturday at 11AM at Cade Chapel MB Church. Burial will be Saturday afternoon in Newton, MS.
