JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi Corrections officials say some victims were given bad information by the state that fanned their outrage.

Former Governor Haley Barbour pardoned 198 people including convicted killer David Gatlin in his final hours in office.

Relatives of Gatlin's victims were even more upset about the pardon because they believed the state parole board turned Gatlin down for parole December 27th.

But, according to MDOC, a letter they received was an error.

Another man, with the same last name was considered for parole in December. Gatlin's last parole hearing was in 2010.
